Staalstraat 7-A, 1011 JJ Amsterdam

every day 12:00 - 19:00

Johan Vanderschelden (62) is an artist who has his studio at Kunstwerkplaats De Zandberg in Harelbeke (BE). He works with textiles and is a master with the sewing machine. With his imagination he builds a world in garish fabrics with smaller kitschy details. Combining certain objects with costumes, fabrics or masks cancels their original meaning.

Klaas de Baere (1995) is a mixed media storyteller who expresses himself through illustration, performance, writing and playful objects. He uses his sketchbooks to create illustrations, objects, installations and performances that illustrate a journey through an imaginary village. In his work he plays with a sense of depth, flatness, storytelling and form.

Klaas started his education in the visual arts at the LUCA School Of Arts in Ghent. After which he completed a master’s degree in Mixed Media. For his thesis and graduation project, Klaas came into contact with Kunstwerkplaats de Zandberg. Here he was blown away by the beautiful work of Johan. So, they decided to start a collaboration. What started with making books from textiles ended in a full collection of flags and costumes in a ‘knight theme’.

Their collection will be on display at @Droog Amsterdam at the Staalstraat 7-A
